Jean Genet: THE THIEF’S JOURNAL

Jean Genet: THE THIEF’S JOURNAL

£30.00Price

1st UK 1965 240pp Anthony Blond. Internally tight. Dustwrapped heavily chipped, especially top edges else VG in G+ dustwrapper.

From the library of Spydeee Gasmantell, with his signature on prelims. When I look back at those transformative times, artefacts from American culture seem to have played an unduly large part. Yet documenting them through this list and other places it’s obvious that the sway of artists from both Europe and England were significant. The writing of Genet was both stirring and (then) aspirational. This is his poetic autobiography - written in hard prose. In this way he documents his life as a parasite, with society as his host. He sees his fellow thieves as gods, and is able to imbue their sordid lives as pimps, whores and addicts with wonder.
