Reverend Jim Jones: THE JONESTOWN MASSACRE
Rev. ed. 1993 28pp Temple Press A5 stapled booklet. Covers slightly age toned else VG+.
The transcript of Reverend Jim Jones’ last speech, Guyana 1978. With an introduction by Karl Eden incorporating events in Waco, Texas. Includes an A5 double-sided flyer for this title (and for Psychedelic Monographs on the reverse).
On November 18 1978, approx 918 people committed “revolutionary suicide” by cyanide, either in drink or by injection (many against their will) at the People’s Temple in Jonestown, Guyana. The reverend Jim Jones had led his flock there from the U.S., viewing Guyana as both a "socialist paradise" and a "sanctuary" from the intense media scrutiny that had dogged his burgeoning cult. This transcript goes some way to showcasing the cult-like hold he had over his followers and makes chilling reading.
